On June 24th, 1947, Kenneth Arnold was flying his private plane in your neighborhood of Mount Rainier in Washington State. Just another flight because of this experienced pilot and business man. Little did he know, that it was not destined to be “just another flight”.
As he was looking his windows, he suddenly saw nine, because he describes them, half-moon shaped, oval right in front and form of convex triangle shaped inside the back, objects. Flying in formation in the community of Mount Rainier. Sometimes inside a later interview, Arnold described the objects as crescent shaped, or maybe a flying wing. Over time, he gave slightly different descriptions, yet still adhering to his original statements. Being an experienced pilot he estimated their speed at about 1200 mph, by estimating the space between two mountain range he was informed about, plus the time it took the objects to protect it. As for the flight characteristics, he stated they were looking somewhat unstable, bouncing top to bottom like a saucer skipping on water.
Out of people different yet similar descriptions, it had been actually THE PRESS that coined the idea of “Flying Saucer”, instead of Kenneth Arnold. He also mentioned that they had seen flying saucers on a few more occasions. So, once we can see, Kenneth Arnold isn’t the father of the term “Flying Saucer”, and in addition, in such cases he didn’t go to whichever flying discs or UFOs either. So, what did he see?
He actually saw a squadron of world war two, German made Horton 18 Jet bombers, the very first “FLYING WINGS”! Unfortunately you can post any pictures here, however if you Google for this, it is simple to find pics of sketches dependant on Arnold’s description, and also pics around the German Horton 18 and today’s Flying wing bombers. Or, you are able to go to my blog, using the link within the Authors box below.
Keep planned, that every this happened not far from the Roswell crash and a couple of years after world war two ended. As we all know, the Germans had highly advanced technology, which has been way ahead from the Western Allies. By the end with the war, the Americans and Russians basically split the spoils of war, with each side got their share of German scientists and hardware.
You can be assured that by the time Arnold observed the crafts, American and German scientists and engineers had made some improvements towards the original design. That’s the reason, why, whilst comparing pictures on the original German version along with the sketches according to Arnolds descriptions look slightly different, but nonetheless have the characteristic wing shape.
The believe that the crafts looked like these people were skipping on water, was due for the fact that flying wings are extremely unstable into their flight characteristics. This does work even to our modern versions on the stealth wing shaped bombers. The difference is, that today’s versions possess a flight management computer, who compensates for your instability, quicker than the usual person could. Back then, there seemed to be no flight computer, so in retrospect the aircraft were bouncing top to bottom.
Regarding the pace of about 1200 mph, as estimated by Arnold, fits in with the real data from your German designers.
Most likely, that it was an entire squadron of aircraft which are transferred in one air force base completely to another, flying through remote area, to prevent being seen with the public.
So, there it is. That’s basically what really happened. While Kenneth Arnold never really coined the saying, his name it is forever linked for the term “Flying Saucer”.
You’ve written a very good write-up right here. Although I don’t accept every single point you tend to make, I truly do accept the general material.
